During the driving test the examiner will be looking for good control of the steering. Examiners aren't as strict about steering as they once were. Not holding the steering correctly at all times and the odd cross of the hands wont fail your test providing you have good control of the car steering at all times.
It is however good practice to keep the steering tidy and if you're a complete novice, then you will need a guide on where to start. Use the tutorial below as a guide. It doesn't have to be perfect and don't worry if you find it difficult. You will find your own comfortable way of steering. Providing it is tidy and you keep good control at all times.
Your normal driving position should be hold the steering wheel in either the ten to two or quarter to three position as in the diagrams to the right. Practice the steering technique below using a dinner plate. |
